About this image

Olympica Fossae is a complex channel located on the volcanic plains between Alba Mons and Olympus Mons. Some sections of the channel are sinuous, indicating that it was created by liquid flow; other sections are linear, indicating tectonic forces played a part in creating the channel. The location of Olympica Fossae in the Tharsis plains point to lava rather than water as the liquid involved in creating the channel.
