About this image

The bottom half of this image shows the northern tip of Baetis Mensa. The mensa is brighter and smoother than its surroundings, and it thought to be eroded into layered material deposited into Ophir Chasma after the tectonic activity that created the original canyon. Baetis Mensa is 181km (112 miles) long. Ophir Chasma is approximately 317km long (197 miles) and is part of the Valles Marineris system of canyons.
