Lucus Planum Crater
About this image
Lucus Planum is located in a region of Mars rife with wind erosion. The surface materials are poorly cemented and are easily eroded. It is likely that the volcanic ash fall makes up a significant part of the rocks in the region. The relatively young crater at the top of the image is already filling with material and having those same materials sculpted by the wind.
