About this image

Today's VIS image shows a unnamed crater located in the northern plains. At some point after the crater was formed a layer of material covered the entire region. The coating layer is being eroded away from the crater. The mechanism of the coating and then removal of material is not understood at this time, but is interpreted to be related to volitiles - such as ice - being deposited and removed.
