Hyblaeus Fossae
About this image
Today's VIS image shows one of the graben that make up Hyblaeus Fossae. This fracture system is located on the southwest part of the Elysium Volcanic complex and is related to the volcanic and tectonic activity that created Elysium Mons. The whole fossae system is approximately 375km (233 miles) long. Linear depressions of this type are called graben, which form by the down drop of material between two parallel faults.
