Dorsa Argentea - False Color

The THEMIS VIS camera contains 5 filters. The data from different filters can be combined in multiple ways to create a false color image. These false color images may reveal subtle variations of the surface not easily identified in a single band image. Today's false color image shows part of Dorsa Argentea. Dorsa Argentea is located near in the south pole and is comprised of a series of linear and sinuous ridges. The ridges are most likely material deposited in subglacial channels, which become a positive relief feature when the ice is removed. On Earth, these features are called eskers.
