This image of the southern rim of Melas Chasma is unique in showing the trace of one of the many faults associated with Valles Marineris. The fault is seen as a small ridge feature entering the upper lobe of the gully. It continues as the brighter line crossing diagonally across the gully and then as a darker line down along the slope to the floor of Melas Chasma.
