About this image

The large fracture seen in this THEMIS image contains multiple upper right to lower left trending channels which feed into the fracture. The term fracture is used to describe brittle failure which has occurred causing a planar break within a geological unit / material. The lava found within the large crater surrounding the fracture was possibly fed into the crater by the left to right trending fracture. This image was originally released as part of the THEMIS Art series - barbed wire or maybe the stitches on Frankenstein's head.
