At approximately 9:05pm PST on Jan.24 2004, the <a href=&quot;http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/home/&quot;>Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity</a> landed slightly to the southeast of this image. The rover's goal is to investigate the hematite found by the <a href=&quot;http://tes.asu.edu/&quot;>Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES)</a> on board the Mars Global Surveyor orbiter.
