Today's VIS image shows a cross section of Tharsis Tholus. Tharsis Tholus is located east of Ascraeus Mons. The base of Tharsis Tholus is covered by volcanic flows - probably from Ascraeus Mons, indicating the volcanic activity of the tholus ceased prior to that of the nearby large volcano.
