About this image

Located on the western slope of the Tharsis volcanic bulge, this landscape shows the effect of the large-scale wind regime of the region. The northwest/southeast trending yardangs may have been eroded by winds from both directions, but there are some indicators, primarily on the lower left mesa, that the the streamlined forms resulted from downslope (to thenorthwest) winds.
