THEMIS Art #33 (Released 9 February 2005)
About this image
The interior layered deposits (ILD) evident in this Themis image are dramatic in their appearance. The layers are composed mainly of ice, with in some instances a thin coating of dust. Unlike glacial barbs seen in Earth based glacial systems, it is currently unknown if the ILD layers on Mars represent a seasonal change. Notice the smooth icy polar capped surface in the middle of the image. This image was first released as an Art image, perhaps you see the shoulder and side of an elf's head.
